ELA/SLA at ¡HOLA! Elementary
Academics
At ¡HOLA! Elementary, our curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, build biliteracy, and cultivate creativity. We provide students with rigorous, research-based instruction through the American Reading Company (ARC) Core, (link to Units of Study) woven together with our arts-infused dual language approach.
ARC Core: Our Foundation
We use ARC Core as our primary curriculum for literacy and interdisciplinary learning. ARC Core is a standards-aligned, knowledge-building curriculum that immerses students in high-quality mentor texts across content areas. Its design promotes:
- Foundational Literacy & Biliteracy: Building strong reading and writing skills in both English and Spanish.
- Knowledge Development: Units organized around science and social studies themes that deepen understanding of the world.
- Student Voice & Choice: Independent reading libraries at every level that honor student interests and identities.
- Differentiated Support: Structured supports that ensure all learners—including Gifted, English Language Learners, and Exceptional Student Education students—have the tools to succeed.
Each unit of study ends with a research writing assignment as a culminating learning project. Through ARC Core, students engage in authentic reading, writing, and discussion that foster critical thinking and academic language.
